Automated Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine

Low-cost, IoT-enabled automated vending machine for sanitary napkins — 2nd Runner-Up, KUET Intra-University Project Competition 2022.

Automated Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine is a low-cost, coin-operated vending machine designed to provide affordable and accessible sanitary products in public spaces across Bangladesh.

Problem Statement

Sanitary products remain inaccessible in many public institutions in Bangladesh due to cost, social stigma, and lack of distribution infrastructure. This project addresses that gap with an automated, anonymous, and affordable dispensing system.

Features

  • Coin acceptance: Validates coin input using IR-based sensors and a sorting mechanism.
  • Automated dispensing: DC motor-driven mechanism releases one unit per valid transaction.
  • Low-power design: Operates on standard power supply, suitable for installation in schools, universities, and public restrooms.
  • Tamper detection: Alerts if the dispensing compartment is opened without authorization.
  • Digital counter: Tracks units dispensed and remaining stock for maintenance planning.

Technologies

  • Arduino microcontroller
  • IR sensors and coin validator circuit
  • DC motor with gearbox for dispensing
  • LCD display for user feedback
